Dr. Tom Hogan SPHR, GPHR; Professor of Human Resource Management, Penn State University School of Labor and Employment Relations

I am a professor of Human Resource Management in the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the Pennsylvania State University. I joined the faculty at Penn State in July 2009. I teach human resource management courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (both face-to-face and online). My research and teaching interests include global leadership development, business ethics, corporate social responsibility and sustainability. My work and this course seek to connect research and discovery with practice and delivery.

I currently serve as a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In this role, I am involved in developing and representing the U.S. position on global HR standards to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In November 2011, I was elected to represent ANSI as a member of the U.S. Delegation at the first ISO Technical Committee 260 Human Resource Management plenary meeting.

Although I’m a scholar-practitioner today, I spent most of my career as a practitioner. This includes 23 years with AT&T with assignments in sales, sales support, business development, marketing and HR. In my last assignment at AT&T, I served as Director of Strategic Talent Acquisition, Workforce Diversity and Equal Employment /Affirmative Action. After AT&T, I served as Interim Associate Provost, Office of Faculty Affairs at the University of Maryland University College.
